June 2011 First Friday Art Opening

Don't miss the First Friday Art Opening of Joe Coggins' work at The Meiere House Antiques located at 270 S. Main St. in Madison on Friday, June 3 at 6:30 pm.  The Meiere House phone number is 706-752-0009. 

There will be a party on the porch with libations and munchies and you'll get to meet this energetic new Guildie and see his tranquil depictions of nature.  We'll also be voting on the Board's nomination of additional board members so be sure and attend!  Bring an appetizer and a friend!

Joe, a native Georgia boy who was born and raised in College Park has had a live steeped in all aspects of the business of art.  From the wholesale end of things to framing and now print makinig, Joe has not only painted and taught art for 20 yrs , but he's successfully marketed it too.  For many years he owned a high end store which sold originals and antique prints and in Florida he and wife Willene owned a boutique which dealt in home accessories, custom framing, original art and antique prints.  Heck, Joe even made a mean silk flower arrangement and sold many of them for several hundred dollars each.  He's just got that artistic touch!

As an artist, Joe studied under Roman and Constantin Chatov and Ouida Cannady where he perfected his technique.  During the 12 years he spent in Florida he really hit his painting hot and heavy and never stopped.  He now enjoys life on a Morgan County horse farm owned by his daughter and he and his sweet wife Willene spend lots of time with grand kids and continue to market their antique prints at Scott's Antique Market.  Lucky us, he will also have a booth at the Meiere House!  Joe also produces high quality giclee prints as another aspect of his business.  He can print HUGE prints on his 40" printer, so be sure you talk to him about any printing needs you might have!

2011 Georgia Kids in Bloom Art Exhibit

The 2011 Georgia in Bloom Art Fest culminated on Saturday, May 14 with the GA Kids in Bloom Awards reception at Steffen Thomas Museum of Art, which was the gallery location for over 80 pieces of art from Morgan County students.  With an enthusiastic crowd of 140 students, their families, and art teachers present, Madison Artists Guild Director Karen Strelecki awarded certificates, ribbons and praise to the young artists to whom this show is dedicated.

This is the 4th year of GA Kids in Bloom, a segment of MAG's Georgia in Bloom Art Fest which received an Invitational Grant from the Georgia Council for the Arts and the unflagging support of the Morgan County art teachers and STMA.  The children's work will remain on view at STMA through Saturday, May 21st.  The museum is located at 4200 Bethany Rd., Buckhead and admission to see the GA Kids in Bloom exhibit is free.

Two Women of Substance Show

Wednesday, May 4th., at 6 pm, we will have an opening for the Two Women of Substance Show - Works by Katie Bacon and Maggie Mize.  Town 220 is providing the wine and light refreshments.  Mark Maxwell, a wonderful Athens musician will play guitar from 6:30 till 8:30.  Please come and see this collection of beautiful work, meet the artists, enjoy some wine, art and music!
